NEW DELHI: You may soon be able to send 'self-destruct' messages on Facebook, a la Snapchat. According to screenshots shared by Twitter user iOSAppChange, Facebook users will be able to decide how long they want their chats to remain visible.

"You turned on disappearing messages. New messages will disappear from this conversation 15 minutes after being sent," Messenger says in the chat window. This message is most likely after the self-destruct feature was enabled.

The disappearing messages feature is likely to come in Facebook Messenger v68.0 foriOS  users.

The social network is also said to be working on a 'secret conversations' feature. According to reports, these 'secret chats' too will likely be conversations with end-to-end encrypted messages similar to the encryption support WhatsApp recently got.

Incidentally, this is the secondSnapchat-like feature Facebook is said to be working on. According to a recent report in Wall Street Journal, the company is is developing a stand-alone camera app to increase user engagement.

The app, being developed by Facebook's "friend-sharing" team in London, is in its early stages and may never come to fruition, according to the report.

The company is also planning a feature that allows a user to record video through the app to begin live streaming, the report added.
